About Us
Zodiac is an Asian-Australian contemporary jazz ensemble gathered from Sydney’s vibrant music scene. The quartet combine to create a sound rich with passion and storytelling, deeply inspired by their multi-cultural experience.
Operating as a collaborative unit, Zodiac’s music has become powerful statement to the scene, melding together a range of influences to form a truly cinematic display. Their compositions explore themes of identity, belonging, and the search for home, weaving intricate melodies with expansive improvisation.
In 2022, the group was awarded the ABC Jazz Composer Commission to record their debut album ‘The Wild Wild East’ (ABC Jazz), which was praised for its evocative and sentimental nature. Their most recent record ‘From’ (2025) was similarly released to critical and public acclaim, subsequently being nominated for an AIR award for Best Jazz Album.
Going on to perform tours across Australia and Asia, Zodiac have performed across several renowned festivals and venues both locally and abroad. As an ensemble with strong Asian-Australian creative voices at its core, Zodiac are committed to being a visible, positive example of Asian representation in the music industry. Their upcoming short documentary ‘Zodiac!’, directed by leading creatives Chris and Andrew Yee, gives an intimate, behind-the-scenes look at the ensemble’s journey, how they came to be and what inspires them (coming soon!).
